A
few more of the Do-It-Yourself Thinking for a Change submissions. Again, thank you all for

Tim Tice challenged his Oregon-based Boy Scout Troop who were working on
a Communications Merit Badge to find a quote and write a comment. I think you’ll
agree, they did a good job.
“I
still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the
walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, and all the friends I want
to see.” John Burroughs – Essayist
Conclusion:
To purposely slow oneself
down is change. Be someone who not only listens to what people say, but give
thought about what people said after you have separated. Appreciate people for
who they are, build on the memories, since you will have them forever.

I have fallen in love with
the boy next door--he's 3 years old. I have learned so much from him. The
latest bit of wisdom that he gave me had to do with the supper his mom
presented to him. He said, "You get what you get, and you don't pitch a
fit." Sometimes in life, as with meals, we have to be satisfied with what
we get. The hard part is knowing when we can change something successfully and
when we need to be happy with what we have and "not pitch a fit."
On her first attempt, my party-loving niece flunked out of school. After
working for a couple of years, she decided that she did not want to be defined
as someone who flunked out of school. She decided to change. She went back to
school, and on May 8, at her college graduation, she will be awarded the
Excellence in Academics award for her degree program. Half of the battle is
deciding to change.
Keona Jacobs from WE Energies turned this assignment into to a remembrance
of a recently deceased family member. What a nice tribute.
My husband's grandfather
Walter "Wally" Hirschi died on April 23 and we attended the funeral
last Saturday. A couple of days before the funeral my mother-in-law found
a letter Wally wrote to my husband. In it there was a great "Thinking for
change" quote.
"We cannot direct the wind, but we
can adjust our sails."
Anyways, this was a perfect
quote for Wally because he always went with the flow and lived life to the
fullest. He was a wonderful person with a fun heart and soul.
Some of his many fun-filled
accomplishments.
- Yodeled
on the Cliffhanger game with Bob Barker when he was in his 70's.
- Sang
and yodeled in an Oscar Meier weiner dog parade in his 80's
- Became
one of the oldest Big Brothers to a boy and family when he was 80.
- Loved to sing karaoke, dress up in silly costumes and hats, act in plays, and play with his great-grandkids any time he had the chance.
Remember, at any
time, if you find a perfect quote for Thinking for a Change; feel free to send it to me at Chris@Change101.com. Commentary or not.
